LMinister Namal Rajapaksa has revealed that he is unaware of the incident where a large amount of money had allegedly been stolen from his father’s private account by an official who had served as the Prime Minister’s secretary.
Lankadeepa reported that the secretary was sacked from his position after it had been found that he had committed financial fraud amounting to millions of rupees by withdrawing money from the Prime Minister’s bank account using an ATM card that had access to the account maintained at a state bank.
Commenting on the reports, Minister Rajapaksa told reporters that he had become aware of the incident only after seeing reports of it in the local newspapers.
“I saw reports of such an incident on the newspaper. We have not discussed such an incident. As long as I know, such an incident has not taken place,” he said.
Minister Rajapaksa also denied reports claiming that the Prime Minister had undergone surgery recently.
“There were reports that my father had been admitted to hospital and had also undergone surgery. That is untrue. My father and I only visited a patient who had been hospitalized. My father has not undergone any surgery as reported,” he added.
