The prices of 48 medical drugs, which were previously reduced, have now been increased.
This move was revealed through an extraordinary gazette that was released on December 14.
Minister of Health Dr. Rajitha Senaratne says the decision was taken as a result of a request made by the Chamber of Commerce from the medicine importers, with the rising price of medicine in the world market.
According to the gazette, the increase in prices will be in effect for one year. Even if prices in the world market increase in this one year time period, it would not affect the prices of these 48 medical drugs in the country.
The government decided to reduce the prices of 48 essential drugs on October 21, 2016 and the reduction was in place for over a year.
