SLFP young professionals calls for removal of Mahinda Rajapaksa from party adviser post

Sri Lanka Freedom Party Young Professional’s Association (SLFPYPA) says the association will urge the SLFP leader President Maithripala Sirisena and the SLFP Central Committee to expel former president and current Parliamentarian Mahinda Rajapaksa from the post of Party Patron.

Member of the Executive Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Young Professional’s Association Rajika Kodituwakku points out that former president Rajapaksa is promoting another party while being a patron of SLFP and such a person cannot be an adviser to the SLFP.

Addressing the media at the SLFP Headquarters yesterday, Kodituwakku said Rajapaksa is working for the victory of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) led by former minister Prof. G.L. Peiris.

He said that Mahinda Rajapaksa is working to defeat the SLFP while attempting to split the party. Rajapaksa has become the ‘brand ambassador’ promoting the GL Peiris’ party, he said.

Therefore Mahinda Rajapaksa should not be kept as patron of the party, Mr. Kodituwakku emphasized.

“Accordingly, the SLFPYPA will suggest to the SLFP Central Committee to expel Mahinda Rajapaksa from the SLFP adviser post with immediate effect,” he said.
