The Sri Lanka Army has stated that the general amnesty period offered to army absentees enabling them to receive their legal discharge from the army has been extended till 22nd November. The General Amnesty was scheduled to end Wednesday (15th November).
According to Army media, 8052 Army absentees including 10 officers, 8 Officer Cadets and 8034 Other Rankers had reported to their respective Regimental Centers during the Amnesty period, so far.
The General Amnesty period was extended in response to requests made to the Army. Therefore the Sri Lanka Army, appeals to all religious leaders, Grama Niladharis and relatives of Army deserters to educate and encourage the absentees if known to make use of this opportunity and get legally discharged before November 22nd.
The General Amnesty was declared under the directions of the President and the Ministry of Defense on October 23, 2017.
