The Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) investigations on two people who were arrested after they were deported from the United Arab Emirates revealed that they were involved in promoting extremism
Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said the two suspects had conducted multiple lectures for Sri Lankan families living in the UAE on extremism.
One suspect is a 44-year-old from Hingula and was arrested on 30th March 2021. The other suspect is a 47-year-old from Matale and he was arrested on the 25th of March 20121.
The duo was deported for multiple offences, DIG Rohana stated.
Analysis on the laptops of the suspects done by the TID revealed the devices contained speeches and other material related to extremism, said DIG Ajith Rohana.
