President of the Ceylon Private Bus Owners’ Association, Gemunu Wijeratne says that buses will be out of service from Monday unless there is an increase in bus fares or a subsidy for diesel is provided inline with the increased diesel prices.
Wijeratne also said that since then diesel price was increased by Rs. 55/- per liter, which is a 45% increase, the bus fares also must be increased by at least 15% as per the bus fair policy.
He further reiterated that unless bus fares are increased, if is not possible to operate busses.
