The Colombo Magistrate Court on Monday issued an order to a private bank to release information on checks made at Temple Trees before 2015 presidential election to the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) of police.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake Monday ordered the chairman of a private bank to issue information on bank accounts needed for the investigations carried out by the FCID regarding the removal of more than Rs. 1.3 billion from Temple Trees.
The Chief Magistrate issued the order in response to a request from the FCID when the progress of the investigation was reported to the court today.
The FCID informed the court that from the 1st of December 2014 to the 08th of January, 2015, 82 checks, each for Rs. 10 million or more, were cashed and Rs. 1,398 million obtained from the banks have been given to the officials of the Presidential Secretariat.
The Chief Magistrate ordered the private bank to release the information on the checks disregarding the objection made by the attorney representing the relevant bank.
