Sri Lanka Navy rendered assistance to retrieve an injured Russian sailor on a merchant ship and bring him ashore for treatment yesterday.
The crew member got severe injuries on one of his legs due to an accident onboard MV Boston, a bulk carrier belonging to Marshall Island. The merchant was on its passage from Guinea to Singapore when the accident happened.
On receipt of the information released by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre about the patient, the naval vessel was dispatched from Galle harbor to the location146 nautical miles off Galle light house.
The Navy personnel safely transferred the patient to the Galle harbor and admitted to Teaching Hospital-Karapitiya for medical treatment.
