Eight hospitalized over acid attack in Kegalle

Eight people have been admitted to the Kegalle General hospital following a dispute that erupted in the Waawala, Hatha-naawa area in Kegalle.

Six of them were admitted to the hospital due to injuries caused by an acid attack. At around 9:00 Saturday night (January 11) a clash broke out in Moronthota, Kegalle between two people. Our correspondent stated that the clash had escalated when a person assaulted a 22-year-old youth.

The friends of the youth who was assaulted had gone to the house of the youth and had thrown acid at the person who assaulted the 22-year-old youth. The victims of the acid attack were residents of Wawala aged 53, and six youths aged 31 to 20.

Six people who suffered injuries from the acid attack and two more people who suffered injuries following the dispute are currently receiving treatment.

According to hospital officials, two people have lost their sight due to the acid attack. One individual has surrendered over to the police over the incident and according to the police, the main suspect has fled the area.
