French Police begin investigations Tour de France spectator causes massive crash

The French authorities have launched an investigation into to the overzealous fan who caused a huge crash during the first stage of the Tour de France on Saturday (26 Jun)

A female spectator on the side of the road had stepped in front of the racing pack holding a cardboard sign, appearing to display a message for the television cameras which ended up hitting the German cyclist Tony Martin followed by the disastrous pile up of  the riders behind him.

Speaking to the CNN a spokesperson for Amaury Sports Organization, the Tour de France organizer, confirmed the company had made a complaint to the authorities.
