The previously implemented quarantine curfew was scheduled to end at 04:00 am 30 August.
However, owing to the delta variant Sri Lanka has been reporting over 4000 Covid cases and nearly 200 deaths on a daily basis for the past few weeks.
Minister of Health, Keheliya Rambukwella tweeted that one of the reasons for extending the curfew was the behaviour of locals.
The current #COVID19SL curfew will continue till Monday 4am (06/09). Following an observation that #lka citizens have not taken the curfew to heart, in order for this to be effective, I implore again to refrain from unnecessary travel, work from home & abide by the curfew.
