Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella yesterday said health sector trade unions should not act for the narrow purpose of maintaining their power and that it was important for these unions to understand that citizens were looking upto to the entire health sector in their hour of need.
He said some unions were trying to pressurise him by levelling absurd allegations against him and added that he was not a politician who will fear or wilt under such pressure tactics.
He was speaking at a media briefing in Kandy yesterday (02).
He said that everyone from the top to the bottom of the health sector had made a huge commitment to control the spread of COVID and that they would always earn the respect and love of the people of this country.
The Minister said that he would not hesitate to fulfill reasonable demands and added that those who run trade unions should understand that the people will be at the receiving end if they agitate for unreasonable demands.
