National Sustainability Discourse to achieve SDGs to be launched today

The National Sustainability Discourse a nonpolitical, unbiased, scientific approach to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the year 2030 will be launched today (6th) under the patronage of President Maithrapala Sirisena at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, Secretary to the President Udaya R. Seneviratne announced yesterday.

Addressing a media briefing at the Government Information Department Auditorium Mr. Seneviratne said the outcome of this discourse will be a creation of long term national development plan for Sri Lanka with the participation of whole society including all relevant sections.

Since this is a national exercise, all leaders of country including former president, Leader of the Opposition and other leaders are invited, the Secretary said.

Describing the need of an unbiased development policy, Coordination Secretary to the President Shiral Lakthilaka said that although Sri Lanka has gained Middle Income status with $4000 per capita income, disparities still remain with 5.3% of the population is living under the poverty line.

Additional Secretary to the President Jayantha Wijeratne, Prof. Mohan Munasinghe, Prof. Hemanthi Ranasinghe and the Director General of Government Information Attorney at Law Sudarshana Gunawardena also participate in this event.
