The National Police Commission says 1,182 complaints have been lodged by the general public against the police during the past eleven months.
The Secretary to the Commission, Ariyadasa Cooray, said a majority of the complaints filed accuses the police for being biased, misusing its power and against the failure to mete out justice to the general public .
Furthermore, the National Police Commission hopes to improve the services of the police and hold discussions with the public in order to obtain views and suggestions of the public to ensure improvement, efficiency and a fair police service.,
According to the Secretary Ariyadasa Cooray, the public discussions which will be held on regional basis, are set to begin on December 9.
