One of the six inmates who fled the custody of the prison officers Monday at the Baddegama Magistrate’s Court has been arrested yesterday.
A special team of Baddegama Police and Special Task Force (STF) police has arrested the escaped inmate around 11 this morning at Ellekanda area in Baddegama.
The 21 year old detainee has been in custody for a rape case while the other escaped inmates were in remand prison for robbery.

Investigations are underway under the guidance of Matara Prison Superintendent on the prisoners’ escape Monday from the Baddegama Magistrate’s Court when they were at the court for their trials.
Prison media spokesman Thushara Upuldeniya said a group of 15 prison officers had been deployed to find the inmates who fled from the custody of Galle Prison officers.
The six inmates had reportedly attacked the prison guards while they were being fingerprinted and escaped when they were produced before the Magistrate’s Court in Baddegama Monday.
The chief suspect who assaulted the prison officers was arrested Monday, Prison media spokesman said.
