Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said in Colombo Thursday (22) that there is a need to decide on the methodology of holding future elections.
The Prime Minister said that this decision should be taken through a review of the new electoral system that was used for the recent local government polls.
The Prime Minister made these remarks participating in a ceremony held at the Temple Trees Thursday to swear in the newly elected United National Party (UNP) members of several local government bodies in Colombo District.
The Premier noted that there is a need for a rectification of the electoral system since an instability has risen in a number of the local governments due to the new electoral system used at the local polls last month.
He added that the electoral system need to be rectified at the next election and decisions should be taken in Parliament on the changes
