Nuwara Eliya High Judge Court S.U.B.Karaliyadde yesterday sentenced former Chairman of the Walapane Pradeshiya Sabha and a driver attached to the Walapane Divisional Secretariat to 12-years rigorous imprisonment and fined them Rs. 10.1 million.
Walapane police had charged them with the misuse of a vehicle belonging to the Agriculture Department and keeping in their possession a fire arm without a licence in 2004.
They were sentenced to two-year prison term and ordered to pay a fine of Rs.7,500 on the second count.
If they failed to pay the fine they were to be sentenced to a 54-month prison term.
