New school bus service to operate from August 1

The new school bus service for school children and teachers who are facing transportation difficulties due to the fuel crisis will be in operation from the August 1, National Transport Commission (NTC) Director-General Dr. Nilan Miranda said yesterday.

Addressing a media briefing held yesterday, he said about 40 buses will be deployed for the new service from August 1, 2022.

School children using this transport service will be charged the usual bus fare. This service is operational for the convenience of the children of schools located in Colombo and schools located in Gampaha, Kalutara, Horana and Maharagama areas.

Buses will arrive at the school at 7.30 a.m. and depart from the school from 1.30 p.m. A systematic programme to supply fuel for the buses affiliated to this service will be implemented and initially it will be limited to the Western Province.

It is hoped to increase the number of buses and implement the service more widely according to the future requests and responses received for the programme.

Further information about the service can be obtained from the 24-hour hotline 1955 or visiting the website of the National Transport Commission.
