Prime Minister orders an inquiry in to reports of TNA MP allocating public funds to rebuild cemeteries for dead LTTE fighters

Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister has ordered an inquiry in to the reports that Kilinochchi Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian S. Sritharan has allocated Rs. 4 million of his decentralized budget to rebuild the cemeteries for dead LTTE fighters.

State Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs Niroshan Perera has reportedly said that an investigation into the matter has been ordered.

The Prime Minister has instructed the State Minister to order the Kilinochchi Pradeshiya Sabha to stop the work immediately if reconstruction has started.

The Minister has said that if the funds from the decentralized budget have been used for the renovation work of the LTTE mausoleum in Kilinochchi then the work will be stopped immediately since certain guidelines have to be followed for using funds from the decentralized budget.

Local English newspaper, Daily Mirror reported that the TNA MP Sritharan has allocated Rs 4 million from the decentralized budget to renovate LTTE cemeteries in the north in commemoration of the LTTE Heroes Day that falls on today (November 27).
