Two persons have been arrested in the Warakapola area, for the attempted extortion of a businessman while threatening to kill his family.
The suspects have reportedly feigned that they are members of an organized criminal group and attempted to extort Rs 1 million by threatening to kill the wife and children of the said businessman.
The suspects were arrested based on a tip-off received by the Kegalle Division Crime Investigation Unit.

The arrestees, individuals of 27 and 40 years of age, are reportedly residents of Mirigama and Kegalle areas.
They are slated to be produced before the Kegalle Magistrate’s Court today (30).
