UNP MPs sign motion expressing confidence in PM, debate on no-confidence motion on 4th April

A majority of the United National Front has handed over a letter expressing their support to the Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe at the party’s group meeting Thursday.

Parliamentarian Thushara Indunil Amarasena told media that 85 MPs of the UNP have signed the motion expressing confidence in Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at the UNP parliamentary group meeting held Thursday (22). Ten UNP MPs who are overseas, are expected to sign the motion when they return.

MPs of the Minister Rauf Hakeem’s Sri Lanka Muslim Congress and Minister Rishad Bathiudeen’s ACMC have also signed the motion of confidence on the Premier.

MP Amarasena said that the no-confidence motion presented by the joint opposition is no challenge for the government and the UNP is prepared to defend the Prime Minister at any time.

Meanwhile, it has been decided at the party leaders meeting held Thursday at the parliamentary complex to debate the no-confidence motion on Prime Minister brought by the Joint Option on 4th April.
