The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) noted that there are over 29,000 buildings located within ‘Landslide High Risk Zones’ of the Badulla District.
Director of the Human Settlements Planning and Training Division at the NBRO, Krishan Sugathapala said that these include, 98 schools, 153 religious places, 160 state offices and over 28,000 houses.
These buildings have been identified from thirteen divisional secretariats of the Badulla District, including Hali-Ela, Badulla, Kandekatiya, Ella, Haputale and Welimada.
Buildings in eleven districts including Nuwara Eliya and Kegalle are also scheduled to be inspected.
The NBRO further noted that, if heavy rainfalls continue to prevail today and tomorrow, officers will be assigned to areas prone to landslides.
