The Ministry of Health has decided to reduce the prices of more varieties of essential drugs within the next two weeks, Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne says.
Minister Senaratne said the government has already reduced the prices of 48 varieties of essential medicines and steps will be taken to provide maximum benefits to the patients under the Good Governance government.
He said the free health service in this country will be further expanded and make more efficient. The Minister expressed these views participating in a ceremony organized by the Public Service United Nurses Union to mark the International Nurses Day Thursday (10th) at the BMICH in Colombo.
Minister Senaratne said the World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that Sri Lanka has the best healthcare system not only relative to South Asia but to the whole world.
Although Sri Lanka is a middle economy, the healthcare services in Sri Lanka are similar to that of the United States, the Minister said.
