The report on the Special Investigation Unit of the destruction of the Vilaththakulam Forest Reserve, which borders the Wilpattu National Park, will be presented to Parliament today.
Auditor General Gamini Wijesinghe said that the investigation was carried out due to the massacre of wildlife in the Wilpattu National Park.
He further said that the forest clearance was done on legal ground’s and that lengthy studies were done on the responsible institutions. He also stated that the investigation was done on the Forest Conservation Department, the Central Environmental Authority, the Divisional Secretariat, and the infrastructure facilities provided for the construction in the region.
Auditor General Gamini Wijesinghe said, accordingly, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) which, had supplied electricity and Ceylon Water Board, which provided water for the construction, were also investigated too.
