Houses for MPs : Full cabinet paper submitted by Minister Prasanna

Minister of Urban Development and Housing, Prasanna Ranatunga has submitted a cabinet paper to allocate 101 new houses for members of Parliament to be utilized as official residences.

According to the cabinet paper, the housing units are allocated from the “Viyathpura” housing scheme in Pannipitiya and all 101 units are estimated to cost approximately Rs. 1795 million.

The cabinet paper suggests to provide these housing units as an alternative to the Parliament member’s housing complex located at Madiwela, which is decaying and that those houses do not have enough space.

It is also suggested to allocate houses on a priority basis as a temporary measure for those members of parliament who’s houses were damaged in the unrest following the May 9th incidents.
